A planning guide for the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico
When to go, when to book, and what to confirm before you leave for Nassau, Palm Beach, and San Juan.

Understand the local calendar first
Before fixing dates, check what is scheduled in Nassau, Palm Beach, and San Juan during your window. Shifting a trip by three or four days around a major event frequently produces a better room at a lower rate.
Rates across the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico are driven by a calendar that is not always obvious from outside the region. Conventions, sporting fixtures, festivals, and school holidays can double a nightly figure without any change in what the property delivers.
Booking windows
For most properties in the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico, the useful booking window is four to ten weeks out. Earlier than that and inventory is priced conservatively; later and you are competing with everyone whose plans firmed up at once.
Peak-season and event dates are the exception and behave in the opposite direction: they sell out early and only get more expensive.
- Set a target rate before you start looking, so you can recognise a good price when it appears.
- Check whether the property's own site beats the aggregators once fees are included; frequently it does.
- Prefer a flexible rate when your dates are uncertain — the premium is usually smaller than a cancellation penalty.
- Re-check the rate a fortnight out. Many properties in the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico release held inventory at that point.
Arrival day
Expect a deposit hold for incidentals at check-in, typically on a credit card. Debit cards are accepted at many properties but the hold clears far more slowly.
Standard check-in across the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico runs from mid-afternoon, and early arrival is not guaranteed. If you land in the morning, tell the property in advance; most will store luggage and some will release a room early when occupancy allows.
Documents and age requirements
Bring government photo identification for every adult on the booking. Properties across the Bahamas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico apply a minimum check-in age, commonly 21, and it is enforced at the desk rather than at the time of booking.
If your booking includes a third-party voucher or a prepaid rate, carry the confirmation. Front desks in Nassau, Palm Beach, and San Juan resolve rate disputes far more quickly with the paperwork in hand.
